HEALTH & WELLBEING
Victims face numerous health and wellbeing challenges that stem from conflict, displacement, and systemic barriers to proper care. These challenges impact both their physical and mental health in the diaspora.
The following outlines the major categories of health and wellbeing impacts faced by the Coalition of Sudanese Victim Communities in the USA.
Health and Wellbeing Challenges
Limited Access to Culturally Competent Healthcare
Healthcare services that do not consider linguistic and cultural needs or trauma-informed and culturally competent care are often inaccessible.
Chronic Illness or Disability
Lingering effects of injuries, poor nutrition, and inadequate healthcare during displacement and in refugee camps may result in untreated health issues.
Barriers to Mental Health Services
Stigma, cultural misunderstanding, fear, and cost are major deterrents that prevent victims from seeking mental health support.
